Bengali wizard, Firdaus Ghazi, who hails from district 24 Praganas in West Bengal approached the villagers of Naya Bans on 1st of September 2009 and offered to get rid of the ghost cat for which villagers and asked them to make offerings of 7 goats, 160 kilograms of mustard and 20 pots of ghee.
Thousands of people from far and wide poured into the village to witness the ritual.But reports of sightings of the black shadow and ghost cat attacks keep mounting with as many incidents of panic attack taking place. People continue to keep night-long vigil from roof tops clutching sticks, sharp weapons and bricks and torches.
Shamsu almost stangulated her mother when she was trying to cover him with a sheet while he was asleep thinking that the ghost cat has assumed the form of her mother. At Phool Anjan Rahil swore that he was clawed by the black shadow. Residents testified to the abraisons caused by the ghost cat on the name and arms of Rahil another person lost his conscious seeing a huge black shadow approaching him.
Meanwhile a row has developed between two factions asa fall out of the sacrifice of animals and offerings made to ghost cat. Maulana Mohd Sayeed of Madrasa Mazahir Uloom declared it as un-islamic and refused to accept the mutton sent to him by the Bengali Wizard to which the Bengali Wizard and his supporters took offence.
The Bengali Wizard claimed that people of Sahranpur could get much relief after the ritual, as he had apprenticed with the famous Kolkata based faith healer Qazi Mohd Zareef.
